This is a basic course that is ideal for anyone interested in learning the intent of ISO 50001:2018, as well as how to apply its principles and requirements to establish, implement and operate an ISO 50001:2018-based energy management system.
This course can be delivered in person or remotely, and is often a precursor module to the Auditor, Lead Auditor, Consultant and/or Coach courses for ISO 50001:2018.

ISO 50001:2018 enables organizations to manage their energy performance in a systematic way, with the aim of improving energy efficiency, reducing costs and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. The standard focuses on the continuous improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy use and consumption.
The 2018 version of the standard incorporates the High Level Structure (HLS) used in other ISO management system standards, facilitating integration with other standards such as ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management).
- Introduction to ISO 50001:2018 provides an overview of the standard, its purpose and benefits. The concepts of energy management, energy efficiency and how the standard helps organizations improve their energy performance will be discussed.
- Energy Management System Principles associated with ISO 50001:2018 explore the principles of management commitment, energy policy, energy planning, implementation and operation of the EMS, management review and continual improvement.
- Workshop on Energy Management System Principles related to ISO 50001:2018 where participants will have the opportunity to apply the principles of the EMS in real-life situations.
