Main topics
ISO 19011:2018 establishes the principles and guidelines for conducting effective audits of various management systems, such as quality, environment, occupational health and safety, among others. This standard provides a systematic and structured approach to planning, conducting, documenting and communicating audits, with the aim of assessing whether management systems meet established requirements and providing opportunities for improvement.
- ISO 19011:2018 Audit Principles and Guidelines addresses the understanding of the principles and guidelines governing management system audits. It includes familiarization with fundamental audit concepts such as impartiality, confidentiality, competence, and objective evidence.
- Auditor responsibilities include understanding the roles and competencies required, as well as the ethical conduct that auditors must follow.
- Identification of documentation requirements that involves understanding applicable standards and regulations, as well as the documentation necessary to assess conformity.
- Audit preparation addresses planning and preparing for an audit, including defining objectives, establishing audit criteria, selecting the audit team, and scheduling activities.
- Audit investigation techniques focuses on the techniques and methods used to conduct the audit. It includes conducting interviews, document reviews, observations, and analysis of relevant data to obtain the necessary evidence.
- Detecting opportunities for improvement teaches auditors to identify opportunities for improvement during the audit. This involves the ability to analyze audit findings and provide constructive recommendations to improve the management system.
- Documentation and classification of audit results refers to the proper recording and documentation of audit results, including findings, nonconformities and evidence collected. Classification of results for further analysis is also covered.
- Audit Summary Writing involves preparing a summary of the key audit findings.
- Communicating audit results includes preparing audit reports, presenting the findings, and interacting with those responsible within the organization to discuss the results and recommendations.
- Audit Team Management focuses on how to lead and manage an audit team effectively.
- Conducting effective opening and closing meetings in an audit covers aspects such as presenting the audit objectives, scope and plan, as well as communicating the results and recommendations at the end of the audit.
- The Corrective and Preventive Action Cycle (PDCA) addresses the PDCA cycle, which is a systematic approach used to continually improve management systems.
- Techniques for Effective Audit Follow-Up focuses on the techniques used to follow up audits and ensure the implementation of corrective actions.

Use of the certificate:
The certificate resulting from this program is an attestation that the participant has acquired the knowledge and skills listed in the learning objectives, demonstrated during the program, and can be used by the participants’ employer and/or certification bodies as the training element necessary to determine competence.
New certificates:
There are three circumstances in which the student can apply for a new training certificate as an ISO Management Systems Lead Auditor.
1. ISO 19011 auditing standards change.
In such cases, depending on the nature of the changes made to ISO 19011, the learner may need to retake the relevant online sessions and successfully complete the corresponding workshops.
2. The student wants a new certificate to cover a different management system standard
For example, if the student originally took the program with an ISO 9001 quality management focus and now wanted a new certificate in a different domain, such as environmental management, the student would need to complete the ISO 14001 Audit Planning Workshop (in addition to the previous ISO 19011 Audit Program transition/upgrade requirements).
3. The management system standard has changed.
For example, if the student originally took the program with an ISO 9001:2008 version and the standard was republished with significant changes (i.e. ISO 9001 version 2015), the student would be required to complete the Audit Planning Workshop for the new version of ISO 9001 (in addition to the ISO 19011 Audit Program transition/upgrade requirements).
